Sort & Delete - Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 October 2026

Short version: Sort & Delete collects nothing. Everything stays on your device.

What the app does

Sort & Delete helps you review the photos and videos on your device: keep them, move them to folders, or delete them via your device's trash. All of this happens locally on your phone.

Data collection

Sort & Delete does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. The app has no internet access - it does not even request the network permission - so nothing can leave your device. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no third-party SDKs.

Photo and video access

The app requests access to your photo and video library because reviewing, organizing and deleting your media is its core (and only) function. Your media and your review decisions are processed and stored only on your device. Review progress is kept in a small local database inside the app's private storage and is removed when you uninstall the app.

To find duplicates, the app computes small visual fingerprints of your photos and of a few frames from your videos. They are kept in the same private storage, never leave your device, and are removed when you uninstall the app.

The app asks Android for the unaltered originals of your photos and videos, which include where they were taken. It needs them for two things: to keep that information when moving a file means copying it, and to compare files byte for byte when looking for identical copies. The location is never extracted, stored separately or used for anything else, and it never leaves your device.

Deletion

Photos you delete are moved to your device's system trash (Android 11+) where the system removes them permanently after about 30 days, unless you restore them earlier.

When moving a photo or video requires the app to copy it, the original is moved to the system trash the same way (Android 11+), so it stays recoverable for about 30 days.

Backups

If you use Android's backup, Android may back up the app's settings, such as the folders you chose. The app's databases, holding your review progress and duplicate fingerprints, are excluded: they are never backed up or transferred to another device.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published at this address.
